Carlos Moreno (born 10.IV.1675 AN) is a New Alexandrian journalist and media proprietor, best known as the founder and editor of the Moreno Report, an influential New Alexandrian news aggregation website. Known for its ability to break news and shape public discourse, the Moreno Report has been a prominent fixture in Nouvelle Alexandrie's media landscape since its inception in 1698 AN.
Early life and education
Carlos Moreno was born 10.IV.1675 AN in Punta Santiago,Alduria to Felipe Moreno, an engineer, and Jacqueline Anders, a teacher. His parents divorced in 1681 AN. Carlos went to live with his mother, following her to Susa, Alduria, where he grew up. He had few friends, being known instead for being an avid reader and a lover of the radio. He showed an early interest in media and politics, contributing to school newspapers and participating in debate clubs during his education. Moreno attended the University of Punta Santiago, where he earned a degree in Communications and Political Science in 1696 AN.
Career
After graduation, Moreno started working for a prominent print newspaper in Punta Santiago, The Aldurian. However, a few months into his career at The Aldurian he became frustrated by the slow pace and perceived biases of the mainstream media. In 1698 AN, he launched the Moreno Report from his apartment, using personal savings to fund the venture. The site initially curated news from various sources, but its real breakthrough came during the 1718 elections, when Moreno published a series of investigative reports and a massive leak of emails and documents that uncovered the Libertygate scandal.
The Moreno Report quickly gained a reputation for providing fast, often sensational news. Moreno's ability to bypass traditional journalistic protocols and leverage of internet platforms to disseminate news catapulted him into the national spotlight. By the mid-1700s, the Moreno Report had become a major media outlet, influencing public opinion in Nouvelle Alexandrie.
Influence and controversies
Credited with transforming the digital media landscape in Nouvelle Alexandrie, Moreno's approaches, however, have sparked controversy, particularly regarding the accuracy of information and the prioritization of speed over thorough journalistic vetting. Critics argue that Moreno's style contributes to misinformation, while supporters claim he provides a necessary counterbalance to the traditional media's narratives.
Personal life
Moreno is known to be reclusive, rarely appearing in public or giving interviews. He is unmarried and has no children. He currently resides in Cárdenas, where he continues to oversee the Moreno Report.
