Compare (/ˈkompˈare/), in Istvanistani sometimes referred to as Gaffer, is a region of Vegno, located in the eastern section of the country, bordering the regions of Mhazar-Campoasciutto to the west, Bassovento to the east, and Largoprato and the Region of Cossa to the south; it overlooks also, for some kms, into the Strait of Pearls. The region comprises a population of about 251,937 people (as 1724 AN)

Its chief town and largest city is Pescevilla.

Geography

Located north of Apollonia like all of Vegno, Compare is a vast plain characterized by breathtaking landscapes, large expanses of meadows, lush forests and many small crystalline lakes. Its northern location gives Compare unique characteristics both in terms of geography and climate.

The geography is dominated by vast flat terrains that stretch as far as the eye can see. The region is crossed by numerous rivers, which originate from the surrounding mountains and flow into lakes or the Strait of Pearls. These rivers are often surrounded by large wetlands and marshes, which provide ideal habitats for a variety of flora and fauna and make the region scarcely habitable except in large cities.

Compare is also famous for its many small lakes, which are numerous and vary in size. These mirrors of crystal clear water are the result of glacial erosion and are found scattered throughout the territory. Some of the larger and deeper lakes are also interconnected by waterways, which aids transportation and connectivity between different parts of the region.

Regarding the climate, Compare is influenced by its northern location and the influence of the Northern Sea. The region enjoys a cool and humid climate, with relatively short and cool summers, while the winters are long and cold. Summer temperatures fluctuate between 15°C and 25°C, allowing for the luxuriant growth of vegetation and making the lawns green and vibrant. During the winter, temperatures can drop below freezing, often reaching -5°C or lower. Snowfalls are common.

Economy

The economy of Compare is influenced by its geographic location and available natural resources, such as forests, minerals and a variety of fish resources from the sea and lakes. These resources represent the basis for various economic activities.

  • Wood industry: Thanks to the vast forests in the region, the wood industry is one of the key sectors of the economy. The companies engage in sustainable forest management, timber extraction and the production of wood-based products, such as furniture, paper and packaging.
  • Fishing and Aquaculture: Access to the sea and lakes offers opportunities for the development of a thriving fishing industry. The businesses engage in commercial fishing and aquaculture, growing fish and seafood for local consumption and export.
  • Tourism: The natural beauty of the region, with its lakes, picturesque landscapes and wildlife, attracts many tourists. The tourist industry develops by offering services such as hotels, restaurants, outdoor activities, lake cruises and guided nature tours. Coastal cities can be starting points for excursions to the open sea, especially to the north.
  • Hydroelectricity: The many lakes and rivers in the region provide an abundant source of hydroelectricity. The companies are involved in the production of clean energy through the construction and operation of hydroelectric plants, providing electricity both for local use and for sale to other regions.
  • Agriculture: Despite the presence of marshy land, agriculture is still present in the region. The farms specialize in growing produce adapted to local conditions, such as potatoes, berries, cereals and moisture-resistant plants. Additionally, the region may have cattle ranching, dairy production, and greenhouse crops.
  • Manufacturing Industry: The presence of natural resources and access to the sea facilitate manufacturing industry. Firms produce consumer goods, machinery, chemicals, and processed foods. Proximity to European markets facilitates the export of these products.
