Mergeazes ([mɛrgɛ'aθɛs]) is a city in Maremedres, Gerenia, situated on the northern coast of the country, on the shore of the Northern Sea. The population of the city is 64,000.

The name Mergeazes translates from Gerenian as "Sea water".

Geography

Mergeazes is located on the western coast of the Blue Gulf, in Northern Gerenia. Mergeazes does not lie on a major river. The only significant river in the town is Sargaflus (Gerenian: Silver River), which flows from the nearby Lake Elavala through the city into the sea.

The highest point in Mergeazes, at 44 meters above sea level, is situated in Yarawa, in the west of the city.

The length of the coastline is 23 kilometres.

History

The aboriginals of the territory on which modern Mergeazes is located are the Musleki tribe, one of the eleven "original tribes" Gerenians are direct descendants of. The region has been part of many states before Gerenia acquired the entire Maremedres province in 1817. An elaborate system of fortifications was erected between the 1850s and the 1860s, which is partly in ruins as of today.

Tourism

Tourism is Mergeazes' economic base. The main attractions are in the old town, while the Gerenian War Museum is located north of the city. The coastal district is also worth visiting.

Sports

Mergeazes is home of football club Uzenae'ad Mergeazes, who play in the Gerenian League 2, and rugby union club Mergeazes Union, one of the founders of the Gerenian Rugby Championship.
