The Ransenari general election of 1688 AN was held from 4.XV.1688 AN to 6.XV.1688 AN, with XX,XXX,XXX registered voters participating in a nation-wide vote to elect members to the Ransenari Congress. The election took place across 411 constituencies, the first expansion of the legislature from 317 seats in the previous election. The election resulted in a large swing toward the Ransenari Liberation Party and the Nationalist & Humanist Party that resulted in a big loss of seats for the incumbent Imperial Democratic Party. The Imperial Democratic Party, led by incumbent Lord Chief Steward Willihard Cason, won the most votes and seats but lost its majority. This resulted in a hung Congress where no party was able to command a majority. A total of 128 sitting Congressmembers stood down at the election. One reason for the very high number of members standing down was the 1682-1683 AN cash for peerages scandal earlier.
