The Luchtmobiele Brigade (Kasterburg) was originally an air assault brigade of the Verenigde Benacische Weermacht of the United Benacian Republic, and nowadays serves the Kingdom of Batavia. Originally raised as a part of the Volksarmee, trained and equipped by the Imperial Mission Kasterburg (IMK) and garrisoned at Kolmen, with additional support elements at St. Elmo Military Base and Jodocus van Haltna International Airfield. After the integration of Kasterburg in 1685 AN, its military units were integrated into the Bataafse Strijdkrachten and its Bataafse Koninklijke Luchtmacht.
History
Its initial draft comprised of 3,960 volunteers from the Volksarmee, selected according to a stringent criteria for peak physical condition and mental agility, joined by 40 Imperial Instructors, who assembled at Kolmen on 08.II.1660.
Rotorcraft, expected to be "Whirdlebirbs" of Shirerithian and Kalgachi origin, assigned to the Brigade's air assault regiment are to be based at Jodocus van Haltna International Airfield to minimise the risk of attack by insurgents or Tee-als.
With the beginning of Operation Brasen Wall against the Laqi dominated regions of Inner Benacia in the 13th month of 1660, the air mobility afforded by the Luchtmobiele Brigade (Kasterburg) proved to be a crucial advantage for Kasterburg's forces over their semi-nomadic adversaries. Because of the increased tempo of operations, the brigade was reinforced by a further 120 volunteers and a draft of 1,200 aircrew. In all 3,000 personnel and 21 Whirdlebirds were deployed to support the Eastern Border Watch in their campaign against the Inner Benacian insurgents.
In late 1660, the first Kasterburger airplane, the Buzzard C-61 was produced by the Litkov Aviation and Technology Facility with subsequently the prototype and eight production models entering into service with the Luchtmobiele Brigade in the close air support role.
With the collapse of an independent United Benacian Republic, some of the imperial advisors decided to defect to the Unified Governorates of Benacia, while others were escorted to a civil airplane by Batavian officials and forced to leave, taking their know how with them.
The outbreak of the Batavian Revolution that same year hindered plans to close St. Elmo Military Base, and the retreat of the leftists to the northern islands, made the air assault brigade an important part of any possible attack plan. With limited funds, the organisation was increased and new officers and experts (some who had earlier been forced to leave the country) were hired.
