The Mercury Road Network is the system of roads in Mercury and its dependencies. Its roads, as well as sometimes having colloquial names, are named using a system of letters and numbers common to all of Mercury's territories save for the island of Lucerne. The letter the road is given depends on the type of road, and each road has a number, originally labelled from the norther border of mainland Mercury downwards, and then the islands' roads, although new roads may have higher numbers if they were built since the system was created.

Expressways

Expressways, or 'E' roads, are the largest roads in Mercury, with three lanes of traffic in each direction. There are only two Expressways in Mercury, the E1, which begins at the northern border of the state of May, passing through the state’s capital, the continuing south to the city of Taylor, then heading, by a curved route around the coast, south-east into the nation's capital, Mercury, then heads roughly east to end just outside the city of Deacon. The E2 is a shorter road, starting the centre of the city of West Grinstead, capital of the dependency of Nova English Korea, and heads north, before branching into the D3 and D4. On offical maps Expressways are shown in dark blue. Maximum speed limit on such roads is 120mph, although speed restrictions around roadworks and slip-lanes limit this in areas.

Dual Carriageways

Dual Carriageways, or 'D' roads, have two lanes in each direction, separated by a central barrier. There are five of these roads, four on the mainland, and one on the island of St John's. They are shown in red on offical maps. Maximum speed limit is 90mph, although in residential areas this can be as low as 40mph.

Carriageways

Roads with two lanes in each direction, not separated by a central barrier, are carriageways, or 'C' roads, and are shown in yellow on official maps. There are 15 of these roads across Mercury and dependencies. Maximum speed limit is 70mph, sometimes reduced to 30mph in residential areas.

Byways

Byways, or 'B' roads, are more local roads, with only a single lane of traffic in each direction, connecting towns with each other, and the bigger roads. They are shown in blue on official maps, not to be confused with Access Roads, in a paler blue. There were, at last official count, 50 of these roads. Speed limits on such roads vary greatly, although the maximum is 50mph.

Access Roads

Access Roads, sometimes known as 'A' roads, although normally refered to be local names, are the country lanes of Mercury. Some smaller towns are connected only by such roads. They are coloured in pale blue of offical maps, and due to the ever developing nature of the country, no official estimate has been made as to the number of these roads. Speed limits vary, with a maximum of 40mph.
