The Nova English Witan election of 1025AJ (31/10/20) was the second Witan election of the Kingdom of Nova England since the Great Disaster. All 65 seats of the Witan were up for election.

No seats however were made available for territories still under Military governorship, these being the Warring Islands, Britannic Home Islands and Port Moorland.

The election was contested by the five registered political parties and independent candidates within the thirteen wards.

Background

The 1025AJ elections followed the turbulent period of the Decade of The Langsaex. Previous elections were delayed and cancelled by the then ruling coalition who sited that the focus of the people was to be on combating the CNUT insurgency. Eventually as the events of that period led to splits between the coalition government and their respective militias skirmishing on the streets of Newcastle-Upon-Eastmoor. The newly crowned King Aelfric I, gathered the forces of the National Redoubt Garrison and loyalist People’s Militias and stormed the city. Most of the battling parties surrendered to the monarch’s army and those that resisted were slain either by local residents emboldened by the King’s actions or by the King’s solders. After the Provisional Leaders of the National Reclamation Force and the Nova English Nationalist Party were both arrested, King Aelfric I made the first national broadcast by a Nova English monarch since the Great Disaster. He promised a return to greatness for the Faedetellus that must first be served by the election of a new Witan.

Results

The election resulted in an overwhelming victory for the Nova English Royalist Party over the incumbent coalition of the National Reclamation Force and the Nova English Nationalist Party. Leader of the Nova English Royalist Party Randal Kilchester was announced as Witan Chief, with his fellow party members Ulfrid Carter and Winelac Sargent becoming Chiefs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Ministry of Defence.
