The 2020 North Antarctica micrasquake occurred on 2 May 2020, south of Livingston in eastern North Antarctica killing 27 people. It struck at 6:22 a.m. local time (01:22 CMT) with a magnitude of 5.2 Mw, at a depth of 5.3 kilometres. The epicentre was around 12 kilometres south of Livingston.

Damage

Several buildings in the southern part of Livingston were destroyed by the quake, including over 700 residential properties.

Casualties

A total of 25 people were initially killed in the micrasquake, with a further 412 injured, 49 of those being severely injured. Two of the people injured later died in hospital.

Aftershock

A second micrasquake of magnitude 3.8 Mw followed later the same day, 65km further west from the original tremor.

    • Imperial Trade Union Imperial Trade Union The Bassarids offered their support and condolences for the lives lost as a result of the earthquake and prepared War League forces, stationed in the Domain of the North Antarctic which was mostly unaffected by the earthquake, to provide assistance to the government of Mercury should it be requested
