Sancrus (Vegnian pronunciation: [sankrus]; Interlandian pronunciation: [ssant͡srus]) is a city in Sancrus Municipality in Falange, Vegno. The city is the administrative centre of the municipality as well as the administrative centre of Falange region. Sancrus is located on the island of Falange which sits in the Strait of Pearls, just off the mainland of Caponord, Northern Vegno.
History
The original core of the city was founded by the Republic of Freeland in late 1641 AN. In those days, the city was nothing more than a small village a few miles from the capital Viten, unattractive and inhospitable. In the following years, the village grew thanks to the commitment of the new inhabitants and the foreign investments in the coastal area, which then contributed to the expansion of the urban core.
After the fall of Freeland, the city became autonomous and prospered under independent governments, becoming one of the main ports of the Strait of Pearls as well as a tourist destination for foreigners. However, autonomy was not enough to guarantee the city the desired growth; it was for this reason that the citizens looked favorably on the unification of the lands of the north-east of Apollonia under a single flag. This was the reason why the Vegnese uprisings of 1705 AN also affected Sancrus, making it one of the main cities to spontaneously declare loyalty to the newborn Republic of Vegno.
Economics
The city has the most important fishing port of Vegno. Secondary to fishing, the Università di Sancrus is a center for Arctic research. Aeroporto Sancrus-Falange "Stella del Nord" (VESF) is located in the city. Tourism is an alternative economic resource.
