The Lhusan Sharamli (Sanaman for national assembly) is the federal legislature of Sanama since 1703. The assembly consists of 1,750 directly elected Pehati Lhusan Sharamlili (PLS) who serve four-year terms. All members are elligible for recall by their constituencies. The Lhusan Sharamli meet for two sessions per year and delegates authority to its 85-member standing committee between meetings. However, all decisions by the standing committee have to be ratified by the Lhusan Sharamli at the next ordinary session. Elections are free, secret and non-partisan, but elected members are free to form parties and other types of interest groups once elected. The Lhusan Sharamli also elect the members of the various executive committees, as well as appoint judges to the Federal Supreme Court of Sanama. Members elected to the committees can be PLS:s or selected from outside the legislature. The committees in turn invite various interested parties into their membership on a temporary basis when new policy is to be made.
