Andromeda Redshift is a cross-platform web browser developed by Andromeda Web in accordance with a web development program initiated by the Andromeda Tech Corporation. On its initial release in 1653 AN, it was only available for Andromeda's own Andromeda OS, but has since been ported onto foreign operating systems for increased globalisation.

The source code for Redshift was developed by Andromeda Web as part of the open-source Redshift Project, however Redshift itself is licensed as the proprietary freeware of the Andromeda Corporation. Redshift's rendering engine is the RedPak engine developed by Andromeda Code; all current variants of Redshift are rendered with the RedPak engine. Additionally, all web applications registered with the Redshift brand use the RedPak engine.

The Redshift browser is available in the following languages:

Features

Andromeda Redshift utilises a minimalistic interface, keeping the amount of information displayed to a user to a default low. For example, Redshift incorporates interchangeability between its address bar and its search bar in the interface.

Synchronisation

Users of Redshift with registered accounts are able to synchronise their bookmarks, history, and website cookies across multiple platforms while signed in to Redshift. Users can present a synchronisation passphrase or simply provide their Redshift credentials to synch their preferences.

Security

Redshift maintains two separate blacklists of websites flagged for phishing and malware schemes, which are periodically updated based off of user reports and admin patrol. Any users utilising the browser are notified of sites that are flagged before the user is allowed onto the site, giving the user information as to what kind of malicious intent that the website has been flagged for as well as technical information for more tech-savvy users. Redshift also provides the software used for this as a free API called "Redshift Security API".

Redshift additionally does not allow open tabs to interact with crucial functions of the device, including OS memory, user files, other tabs, and other such important files. Sandboxed tabs are disallowed from performing without the initiation of a direct communication by the user, which prevents tabs from beginning malicious processes started by websites to obtain or send information without the permission of a user.

Privacy

Redshift allows users to enter a private browsing mode called "Redshift Cloak", which allows users full access to internet browsing but will not store the user's history permanently, though the user's bookmarks and downloads will be saved. Redshift Cloak does not protect users from their internet service providers or the websites they visit seeing their activity.

Redshift has caused privacy concerns to be raised over its voice-activation system, which allows the system to listen for user's voice to say a designated phrase (defined by the user) to activate the Andromeda search engine. Redshift's voice recognition software listens for the user's voice at all times, which has caused concerns to be raised over the concept of the browser constantly listening to and tracking all audio recorded by the voice-recognition while the browser is on. Redshift has stated that the voice-recognition software is not required to be on, and that the browser will turn off all listening features when voice-recognition is turned off.

Web Apps

The Redshift browser comes with several applications accessible through the internet through the Redshift browser, but these applications can also be accessed by other browsers. They are integrated into the Redshift system. These web apps include Redshift-Translation, which is a translation service that offers translation between almost every known language on Micras, and RedVault, which is a cloud storage area for users that can also house in-built file creation systems to create text documents, slideshows, simple images, and spreadsheets. Redshift also additionally offers RedMail, which is a high-speed email service that has been credited for its simplicity and very high security.
