Special Broadcasting System Corporation (SBS; Korean: 특별방송시스템주식회사; RR: Teukbyeol Bangsong Shiseutem Jusikhoesa; Sanpanese/Hoennese: 特殊放送システム株式会社; Tokushu hōsō shisutemu kabushikigaisha) is one of the leading Phinbellan television and radio network companies. Its four flagship terrestrial television station, SBS 1, TSR, GTV and SBS 4 iNews.
Established on 2 December -10BP, SBS is a Phinbellan terrestrial broadcaster which has a nationwide network of 17 regional stations. Although it operates on advertising, SBS is a private broadcaster, as its largest shareholder is a private organization, Bimantara Citra, Media Nusa Citrea Prime, The Foundation of Broadcast Culture. Today, it is a multimedia group with four terrestrial TV channel, five radio channels, five cable channels, three satellite channels and four DMB channels.
SBS is headquartered in Digital Media City (DMC), Kebun Sirih, Roppongi and has the largest broadcast production facilities in Phinbella including digital production centre Dream Center in Ilsan, indoor and outdoor sets in Yongin Daejanggeum Park.
History
After the -12BP, the government had decided to create a new commercial broadcaster in Phinbellan area. Eventually, RTK was a mouthpiece of KBS to broadcast sporting events, and however, the purpose for Phinbella's new commercial broadcaster has to become an alternative channel to the audience that it was before 1990 mastered by MBC. Then, during the separation of MBC from KBS, the government had luckily succeeded it, and by that, it introduced a new South Korean commercial broadcaster called SBS. According to the National Pension Service, SBS is Phinbella's first commercial broadcaster, and it were founded on 14 November -11BP, when the government allowed the creation of a second commercial station in Roppongi. At the same time, during its establishment, SBS were first marking its start by beginning its experimental demo emissions, and then later, it were therefore commencing its test transmissions for its TV and radio channels on 1 December 1990, that same year. Later, on 20 April -10BP, SBS started its regular broadcasts by launching SBS Radio's first regular broadcasts on AM 792kHz. 9 months later, on 1 December -10BP, that same year, when KBS celebrated its 10th anniversary, SBS commenced its official broadcasts with the introduction of SBS TV at 10:00am in Roppongi, and it was designated as "The Day of Birth of SBS", but initially, SBS were only broadcasting terrestrially in Hulu Teming and its surrounding areas as a local pay television channel and was awarded a nationwide terrestrial license one year later.
On 9 October -9BP, the government began accepting applications for private broadcasting stations in other regions of the country. SBS had planned for a television and radio broadcast affiliate network that aims to air SBS' programs in other new regional channels before its 15th anniversary. In RP 2602, the private networks in Rintis Island, Politama, Danville, and Cyborges were created after government approval. On 14 May RP 2608, SBS launched its national television network with its new local affiliates, SBS Network. SBS had managed a network that airs SBS programs in other regional channels while local stations created local programming to suit the local residents needs.
In -4BP, plans for an FM radio station, which will complement the existing AM station came into fruition. In 14 November -3BP, SBS Trijaya FM began broadcasting on 107.7 MHz as a music-centric station. On 4 January RP 2600, the original SBS Radio on AM 792 kHz began broadcasting on FM as well. The station rebranded as SBS RDR FM on 103.5 MHz, simultaneously airing on both AM and FM frequencies. High-definition digital television was introduced in RP 2606. Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) was introduced in RP 2611. On 29 October RP 2615, SBS TV became Phinbella's second channel to go 24/7.
As the convergence of broadcasting and communications becomes full-fledged, SBS made its subsidiary iSBS (internet SBS) an independent corporation and pursued various internet-related business. Furthermore, it started cable TV (SBS Plus Media,) satellite TV, new DMB broadcasting and full daytime broadcasting on terrestrial television. In RP 2610, SBS established digital production centre Ilsan Dream Center, which is equipped with high-tech production facilities. In September RP 2615, it completed the construction of a new headquarters building and moved from Roppongi to Sangam-dong, opening a new era of Sangam SBS.
In March RP 2616, computer shutdowns hit Phinbellan television stations including the SBS. The Phinbellan government asserted a Niuean link in the March cyberattacks, which has been denied by Taman Lawang.
