The Imperial War Memorial Commission (Kaïsarik Slaht Gætzin Setzard) is an intergovernmental organization established by Shireroth at the conclusion of the Shiro-Benacian War in 1741 AN. The principal mission of the Commission is to mark, record, and maintain the graves and places of commemoration for military service members who perished in that conflict. Soon, however, its mandate expanded to include the commemoration of all who died in service to Shireroth or a member nation of the organization in wars dating back to the 17th century.

History

Following the end of the Shiro-Benacian War in early 1741 AN, Shireroth, recognizing the vast sacrifices made by its forces and those of its allies, established the Imperial War Memorial Commission to ensure the proper remembrance of the fallen. The Commission was charged with identifying, marking, and preserving war graves, as well as creating monuments and memorials where physical interments were not feasible. During the Commission's second formal meeting late 1741, representatives agreed to extend its responsibilities beyond the Shiro-Benacian War. It was decided that the Commission would also commemorate those who had lost their lives in the War of Lost Brothers, a major conflict in Shirerithian history, and all other wars involving Shireroth or its affiliated nations since the 17th century.

This expansion transformed the Commission into a permanent institution dedicated to the preservation of military history and the honoring of fallen soldiers. The scope of its operations now includes:

  • The identification and upkeep of war graves and memorials across Shireroth, its affiliated territories and nations that joined the organisation.
  • The construction and maintenance of monuments in locations where burial was not possible.
  • The creation of digital and physical records to ensure the remembrance of those who served and died.
  • Cooperation with allied nations to coordinate international memorial efforts.

Organization and Governance

The Commission operates as an intergovernmental body, with representation from Shireroth and other participating states. Each member nation contributes resources and expertise to maintain war cemeteries, monuments, and archives. A Central Directorate, headquartered in Shirekeep, oversees policy and strategic initiatives, while regional offices manage operations in specific territories. The patron of the IWMC is the Kaiser of the Imperial Republic.

Funding for the Commission is derived from member state contributions, grants, and private donations. Additional support comes from historical societies and veterans' organizations, which often assist in research and preservation efforts.

Director-General (Stiuranz-Gaþral)
