This is an article about the Sayaffallan Space Program specifically the discovery made on February 12, 2017 by space explorers in the DSEXP (Deep Space Exploration Program) of a new planet teeming with human life; Earth.
Background
Discovery of planet
On January 4, 2017 the Sultan of Sayaffallah was informed by leaders of the Sayaffallan Space Program that the DSEXP had found a new planet in a new galaxy encircled by various floating objects some of which appearing to be platforms for space observation similar to ones already in existence in Sayaffallah's space program. It was ordered to be kept secret by the Sultan until initial contact could be made with the planet.
A large debate within the scientific community was held to determine whether or not an appeal should be made privately through official channels to ask the Sultan to reconsider his order on grounds that the discovery held potential advantages and knowledge for all of society in Sayaffallah in the end the scientific community voted in a narrow vote to accept the ruling of the Sultan and not to challenge it at all but instead to closely monitor changes as they became more pronounced in the attempts to make contact wit the planet.
On January 20, 2017 the Sultan of Sayaffallah ordered the space program to go ahead with plans they briefed the Sultan on to make contact with the planet given the name of UPS1 (Unidentified Planet System 1) and to initiate contact with the planet specifically by entering its atmosphere and sending a team of space explorers in to collect samples and data. The government of Sayaffallah also concurred with the decision of the Sultan and the order was relayed to space explorers to initiate the entrance sequence.
Crash landing
February 12, 2017 in a nationwide address the Sultan brought the new planet to the attention of Sayaffallah's citizens and in real time the entry into atmosphere was watched from a live broadcast feed on board the space explorers entry vehicle. Midway through the flight the camera system showed the vehicle destabilizing and entering into a high speed rotation and failing to stabilize. Space explorers on board activated several jet propulsion systems which regained control of the vehicle and controlled its descent through the planetary atmosphere however the jet propulsion systems failed upon entry into atmosphere once again triggering a rapid descent into the planet's atmosphere.
Cameras on board the vehicle showed the vehicle thousands of meters above a city with lots of canals and waterways but still plummeting rapidly with little stability control. As a last effort at saving the entry vehicle the space explorers activated several large scale parachute systems which controlled the plummet and caused the vehicle to aim towards a waterway instead of several buildings. As it came closer to the surface of the planet's land the vehicle was swept rapidly by several wind gusts and then slammed through the roof of a building coming to rest into what appeared to be some sort of parliamentary session.
Several paramilitary units apprehended the space explorers and they were debriefed as to the events that occurred during the emergency landing. A message was sent back to Sayaffallah showing contact had been established with a country that had a red white and blue flag and speaking a language similar to a dialect spoken in Sayaffallah prompting immediate curiosity by anthropologists and explorers within Sayaffallah's scientific community. It was soon found that space explorers had landed in a place called Amsterdam and it was decided that this must be the name of the country of people.
Nationwide reaction
The country of Sayaffallah has reacted with surprise and excitement with the photographs of the country of Amsterdam racing across television screens in the country. It is believed that this is the first inhabited planet system that Sayaffallah has ever discovered and that has prompted new excitement among the population and it is believed an uptick in recruitment for the space program has also occurred. Reported circulation copies of newspapers in Sayaffallah has risen an extraordinary 92% on the day of February 12, 2017 alone.
The Sultan of Sayaffallah has reportedly been in contact with the leadership of the country of Amsterdam and is working to secure the return of the space explorers to Sayaffallah. It is believed that the return of space explorers could occur sometime soon and already there is a great deal of nervousness as to the situation of the space explorers on a strange and foreign planet system that is inhabited by a people not known to those in Sayaffallah. Those closest to the government believe that the people on this planet system are similar to the kind of beings living in Micras but these reports are yet to be confirmed.
