History

Following victory in the Anahuacano Civil War the Imperialistas dispersed the surviving revolutionary bands, opened the Colegio Militar (Military Academy), established the Escuela Superior de Guerra (Staff College), and raised the salaries and improved the conditions of service of the rank and file of their victorious forces. At its peak in the civil war, the Imperial Army had comprised of 7,000 regulars, 25,000 volunteers, and 40 artillery pieces. The majority of these personnel would eventually be cashiered and demobilised in the decade after 1705 AN, leaving a cadre of veterans of the war as the senior leadership cadre around which a relatively small professional force was built up.

During the post-war period of reconstruction, an increased reliance was placed on the rapidly expanded railway network to quickly move small numbers of troops to suppress regional unrest.

Imperial Army

The principal units of the Imperial Army are ten infantry brigades, a number of independent regiments and infantry demi-regiments. The main manoeuvre elements of the army are organized in three corps, each consisting of three to four infantry brigades (plus other units), all based in and around Ciudad de Anahuaco and its metropolitan area. Distinct from the brigade formations, independent regiments and demi-regiments are assigned to cantonments in each of the country's five federal states. Infantry cohorts, composed of approximately 360 troops, generally are deployed in each cantonment, and certain cantonments, usually in regions facing the Green are assigned an additional motorised cavalry squadron or an artillery battery.

Available in 1717 AN to meet these manning requirements were 10 Generals of Division, 61 Generals of Brigade, 1,006 Jefes, 2,446 Officers, 24,800 other ranks and 7,058 horses. There were also established 21 demi-regiments of the Rural Defence Corps, a volunteer part-time militia, with 600 men in each, yielding a theoretical total of 12,600 additional men.
