The law of the Federation of Nouvelle Alexandrie is made up of many levels of codified and uncodified forms of law. The most important of all the laws is the Constitution of the Federation, the Proclamation of Punta Santiago. This Proclamation prescribes the basic foundational principles and structures of the federal government of Nouvelle Alexandrie, prescribing limits and boundaries to federal law. Federal law consists of Acts of the Cortes Federales, agreements or treaties ratified by the Cortes Federales, regulations established by the executive branch, and case law originating from the judiciary. The Codex Iuris is the official compilation and codification of general and permanent federal statutory law.
Federal laws and treaties, so long as they are in accordance with the Proclamation of Punta Santiago, preempt conflicting regional and local laws in the Regions and the overseas territories of Nouvelle Alexandrie. The Proclamation of Punta Santiago uses Ch. 1, Art. 2 to outline the duties of the federal government, which are drafted in what some scholars have called "generously vague" terms to favor the development of a more powerful federal government as the Federation grew into itself.
In local, regional, and federal levels, with the exception of the Region of the Wechua Nation, most law has either derived from Alexandrian and Caputian law.
