Ayllu in Wechua tradition
In the tradition of the Wechua people, Ayllu is remembered as an ancient nation and one of the earliest organized Wechua states. It lay in Apollonia and is regarded as an ancestor of the later Wechua Nation founded around Mount Lacara.
Wechua tradition holds that Ayllu arose during the long period in which the Wechua of the Mount Lacara region of Keltia lived under the domination of the ancient empire of Attera. As Atteran rule displaced and scattered Wechua communities, some of those who left Keltia settled in Apollonia, where they established Ayllu. It predated the First Wechua Kingdom proclaimed at Mount Lacara in 1657 AN.
Little is known of Ayllu with certainty. The ancient Wechua kept no system of writing, and what survives of the nation comes down through oral tradition and material remains rather than written record. The Museum of Wechua Antiquities in Parap holds ceremonial vessels attributed to Ayllu among its collections.
