The National Militia (Commonspeak: Nasonal Milsä) is the national organized militia and military reserve in Aerla. Organized on the municipal levels, it operates with its own ranks and drill.

Unlike the regular army, recruits can enter the Militia at the age of 16, with parental permission. However, any member under the age of 18 can not be deployed into any combat or disaster zone, and only perform training exercises.

History

From Aerla’s earliest days, local townships had organized militias as a way to defend themselves from outside tribes and bandits. When the Grand Army of Aerla was formed, the Overkommand-ovð-Armë, debated to form a civilian militia separate from the main army in order to serve as a volunteer reserve. After much planning, the first militia formations were organized in early 1724 AN.

Roles

The NMs main tasks are to respond to local and small-scale municipal threats, where GAR involvement may be seen as “overkill”. It also aids in providing disaster relief, law enforcement, and training of volunteers.
