Dragonerkorps Ludwigshafen

The Dragonerkorps Ludwigshafen is currently a corps within the Volksheer of the Lanzerwald Republic. When it was founded in the Republic of Sankt Ludwigshafen it was the first military corps that was maintained during peacetime. It is a mounted infantry corps, one of the few on Micras that still uses horses and donkeys rather than vehicles with internal combustion engines. When it was founded, outside of the city of Sankt Ludwigshafen, it was forbidden to build roads wider than half a Jingdaoese ric to prevent enemies from launching an armoured attack on the city. The dragoons were able to traverse these narrow roads and the thick forests around the city with ease. Since 1681, the Dragonerkorps Ludwigshafen consists of 2,000 men, women and people of other genders, 1,000 horses and ponies and 250 donkeys. All members of the corps are trained and armed with rifles, regardless of their position and function. The corps is outfitted with 80 donkey-drawn heavy machine guns, 30 donkey-drawn anti-tank cannons as well as 10 donkey-drawn FLAK anti-air cannons.

During the 1717 Military Reorganisation in Sankt Ludwigshafen the divisions were renamed into regiments to better reflect the new distinction of administrative and operational organisation of the armed forces.

Traditional secondary weapons

All members of the Dragonerkorps are trained in fire arms, but also in two traditional secondary weapons. The first of this is the seax, a long dagger from which the Cibolan Saxon people derive their name. The second is a sling, which is used with stones in its most basic form, but can also be used with hand grenades.

Modern day significance

The Dragonerkorps Ludwigshafen maintains the ability of the Lanzerwald Republic to field an army that is independent of modern equipment, instead using the natural environment of the Lanzerwald to their advantage. In the event of an attack on the Lanzerwald by an enemy that is significantly stronger than that of the combined forces of the Lanzerwalder Volksarmee, the Dragonerkops Ludwigshafen is expected to lead a guerrilla war against the invaders. The corps is also still highly regarded as a military institution of the Lanzerwald and as the oldest unit it represents the republic's military tradition.
