The Sazeman-e Ettela'at va Amniyat-e Kešvar (SAVAK) was a secret police and counterespionage service with a remit over the population and territory of the Ēurānshahr.
History
Established as the Sazeman-e Ettela'at va Amniyat-e Suren (SAVAS: the Intelligence and Security Organisation of the Suren) in 1709 AN with the passing of the Intelligence and Security Organisation of the Suren Act in that year by the Majles-e Suren.
Organisation
The SAVAK operates under the direction of the Timsar-e Ettelâ'ât va Amniyat-ē Kešvar, with its main functions divided between the General Directorate of Investigations and the General Directorate of Public Security.
In 1752 AN, the Žāndārmirī-ye Dowlati was reconstituted as the main public order force of the Ēurānshahr, subordinate to the General Directorate of Public Security.
