The Xuandao was a religious school for diviners, first reported to be active in Tiegang during late 1732 AN as the authorities became aware of mendicant preachers, seemingly of Jing heritage, begging for alms outside the train stations of the city.

Members of the hidden school were subsequently rumoured to partake of perverse nocturnal rituals in the worship of Eos, acts known as qingtan or pure conversation - although the gatherings are reputed to be known neither for their sparkling discourse nor for purity of the subject matter which has brought the celebrants together.
