The Tonugawa Shogunate was a short-lived shogunate not recognized by any nation. It declared its existence in 1692 and continued its existence until 1693, when the Batavian occupation was concluded. Its population was estimated at nine million, and it consisted of ten separate regions. It was one of the ten shogunates established with the dissolution of Sanpantul after the Tortuga earthquake and was the most powerful.
The Tonugawa Shogunate was economically barren, trying to sustain itself on agriculture and the remnants of former wealth, except for trying to restart some island industries. Border disputes with the Date Shogunate broke out from time to time, and the tension on the island always remained fresh.
