The Last Stand (Batavian: De Laatste Stand) is a Batavian 1665 AN animated movie. It was produced by the Batavian Broadcasting Company and received financial backing from across the Kingdom of Batavia, the Dominion of Batavia and Shirerithian investors.
Story
The story takes place in the near future, 1675 AN. It depicts a grim future in which the 1665 Landsraad and Folksraad elections in Shireroth were won by the Verionists. The first part of the movie explains how the Verionists bribed their way into important positions, abused their power and undermined the opposition. In 1666 AN a coup followed and Ayreon IV gets arrested and killed. Resistance is put down mercilessly, but in the west several states secede. The Batavian Dominion applies for joining Batavia, while Amokolia, Mishalan and several rump states come into existence. Within the next four years those states get overrun.
From here on the movie portrays how the Verionists declare war upon Batavia and invade the small state. The Bataafse Strijdkrachten, in cooperation with remnants of the Batavian Legion and militias struggle in their defence of the Kingdom and everything seems lost. However, a young magician - once tought by the mighty Andreas the Wise himself - appears before the Court of Arkadius IV Kalirion and joins the Batavian cause of bringing harmony and peace back to the continent.
On land, the magician succeeds in bringing the Verionist Army to a grinding halt. On sea, the Kaiser launches his surprise attack on the coast. The collapse of Batavia is imminent and the Kaiser joins his troops at Portus Batavii for a last campaign. When almost all is lost for the Batavians, the old guard of the Shirerithian Imperial Navy defects to the Kalirionists. The Kaiser is killed, the Verionists defeated and the young daughter of the deceased Kaiser Ayreon IV is saved at the last moment, becoming the new heir of the Imperial Republic.
