Portus Batavii
Portus Batavii, officially the Free City of Portus Batavii (Batavian: Vrijstad Portus Batavii), is a lordship in Batavia, located south of the Duchy Baronië on the coast of Regentenwater.
The city was built during the time that Shireroth controlled the Batavian lands, and it was founded as the City of Hjalli in 1638. The first treaty after the revival of Batavia is named after this city.
Cathedral city of the Diocese of Portus Batavii (Church of Elwynn (Archdiocese of Yaanek)). Diocese established in 1638.
Description from 1664 AN
Something was afoot in Portus Batavii. Whirdlebirds, ungainly autogyros disfigured by a profusion of rocket pods and rotary cannon mountings, lazily circled the sleepy Shirerithian colonial port like hornets buzzing at the entrance to a bee hive.
Along the wide dusty boulevards, where the street facades of the Imperial-Revival style shop fronts were beginning to show the haste of their construction, native auxiliaries, identified by a red and yellow armband and a cudgel, were stood at regular intervals whilst the patrol vehicles and horse-drawn hurry-up wagons of the Imperial Marshals rode continuously up and down roads conspicuously devoid of civilian traffic.
For the few patrons braving the row of cafes, chocolate houses, and "bruin café" pubs along the waterfront, it was clear that the Imperial garrison, and the local administration by extension, was on edge - anticipating the imminent arrival or something - or someone. Who or what that would prove to be, no-one could authoritatively say, but after a couple of gins they could usually be prevailed upon to venture an opinion, no matter how ill-informed.
