Etymology

Some notes on the etymology:

  • Back in the days when was new, so early 2003 (god, the times....), there were some other Germanic peoples in the area – Northworthy, Cranda, etc (this was even before Stormark!)
  • The leader of Northworthy, Vivian, asked if she could use Hurmu in her lore. Of course she could! So the idea was that the Hummish were descended from Hurmu tribes crossing the tribes (so some of the tribes who did not sign up for pacificism.
  • From my notes somewhere that I copied it from, don't know where this came from originally, but probably pre-2010 or something. The Hum belonged to Hurmu tribes who refused the peace at Cashma Island in Hurmu's foundation. Like their Hurmudan cousins, they were nomads, but these fought their way through to Northworthy and what is now Toketi. The Arminian league of Crandishmen and Slobovians wished to erradicate the problem by going to the "root", so to say Hurmu proper.
  • Ergo: Hum is easily a non-rhotic version of "Hurmu" with a weakened ultimate vowel.
