The Sanama Department of Infrastructure is the Council of State department responsible for physical and digital infrastructure such as roads, waterways, railways and airways. It forms a part of the Council of State and is headed by the Secretary for Infrastructure, reporting to the Chancellor. The department in its current form was created in 1687 with the passage of the new national constitution and the beginning of the Third Republic, but it traces its origin to the Department of Infrastructure established in 1679. The Secretary for Infrastructure directs the operations of the department, assisted by the Secretary for Public Works and a civil service support staff.
