Papel
A papel refers to a fake micronation or person, in the case of the latter sometimes known as a double-login, whose sole function is to tip the balance of favor in the direction of the real person(s) orchestrating the masquerade. Throughout the history of Micras, there have been many examples of papel nations created by people hiding behind multiple accounts but actually all the same person. In some cases this was to gain more land, in others it is to tip the balance of votes in their favor. One of the most notorious examples was the CIS, whose leader, Separatist, who used different accounts hidden behind proxies to create seven different nations in order to enlarge the land claims of the confederacy. This wasn't discovered for many months and resulted in the CIS becoming disgraced.
Nowadays, papels are rare. A change in MCS rules allowing individuals to run multiple nations on the map, coupled with the sector's shift away from government roleplaying and towards multiple-character-led collaborative narratives, has led to a lack of need to gain personal benefit via such deception. However, historically, in general the practice was greatly frowned upon as dishonest, and those caught doing it were often ostracized from the community.
