Operation Southwatch was a military and strategic operation launched by the Confederate States of Floria in 1743 to assert control over the former territory of North Antarctica, a region that had long been abandoned and left without central governance. The operation's primary objective was to secure former research stations, establish a permanent Florian presence, and exploit natural resources in the region.

Background

Following the collapse of North Antarctica as a sovereign state, the region fell into obscurity, with only remnants of former infrastructure and isolated scientific outposts scattered across the icy expanse. As Floria's geopolitical influence has expanded particularly in the southern hemisphere, the need for secure logistical routes and military outposts in the region grew. Floria sought to establish a foothold in this unclaimed territory, motivated by the potential access to mineral resources and its strategic location for future naval and air operations.

Livingston was declared again as the capital of the new territory to be called Florian Antarctica.

Phases of the operation

Reconnaissance

The first phase of the operation involved the deployment of Florian intelligence and special operations units to reconnoiter abandoned infrastructure and research stations. This phase also included gathering data on resource deposits beneath the ice and assessing the viability of establishing a permanent presence in the region.

Stabilization and Military Presence

Following successful reconnaissance, the Florian Army under President Hutchinson's orders deployed units to secure key installations and outposts in the former North Antarctic region. These units were tasked with ensuring the safety of existing infrastructure and preventing any potential hostile or competing forces from encroaching on the territory. A provisional Florian Antarctic Command was established, providing oversight of the region’s military and civilian activities.

Infrastructure Development and Resource Exploration

With military presence solidified, the focus shifted to building permanent infrastructure: airstrips, research facilities, and naval refueling stations. Simultaneously, Floria initiated large-scale exploration of the region’s natural resources, with mining and energy extraction operations following soon after. This phase also included the construction of the Florian Antarctic Station located in Livingston, which became the central hub for all military, scientific, and logistical operations in the region.
