Old Monk's Brewery is a brewery specialising in a series of traditional Nova English Ales, that follow recipes first established by a small order of monks in the Eastmoorland highlands. Their bestselling ale is Fréamiht Traditional Dark Ale, which has found its way into all strata of Nova English households. The company was established in mid-2017 by brothers Blacwin and Simon Forester, who decided to expand their domestic microbrewery and take advantage of the low competition within the Nova English domestic market.
A major selling point of the brand has been its’ association to the recipes of a little known order of monks known locally in the Eastmoorland Highlands as the ‘Druncnians’. The Druncnians believed that communion with God was best achieved through the consumption of strong ale. As such they devoted their lives to producing the finest ales and praying at their chapels whilst thoroughly intoxicated. The ales produced by the monks became venerated throughout Nova England until a fire claimed the monastery and many of the monks in the year 1746. The Forester brothers claim that following the death of their great-grandfather, they came into the possession of the last remaining tome of ale. Despite calls from historians to access the book, the brothers have kept it and its’ contents a well-guarded secret.
Foreign interest
The Shirerithian Steward, Burgrave Zinkgraven, developed an irrational passion for the output of the Old Monk's Brewery, in comparison to the lager-beers of Batavia and Shireroth's own Goldshire Ales, that he ordered the Count of the English Shore to take whatever steps were necessary to take the Forester brothers into Imperial service. In response to the initial request by the Shirerithian government, the Forester brothers attempted to delay any negative consequences of their decision they commissioned an ale exclusively for the Steward named Steward’s Micge. Meanwhile the brothers secured themselves in the stone walls of their monastic brewery, surrounded by ‘tasters’ from the National Fryd and Private Enterprise.
