International players should not be bolded. See To be avoided for reasoning. (Current squad of the club. Players should only be wikilinked if notable enough to merit their own article. Generally speaking, clubs in fully professional leagues should have wikilinked players, others should not). In the case of leagues with squad numbers, players should generally only be listed if they have a first team shirt number, have played first team football for the club in the past, or do not have a number due to being new signings.

Honours

(Achievements of the club including top-four finishes. For clubs with a large number of major trophies, it may be appropriate to omit third-place finishes or lower. For cup competitions, only list finishes below runner-up if a play-off is held for third and fourth place.)

To be avoided

Bolding of internationals

Players who have played international games should not be bolded. This is for several reasons.

  1. For teams such as Cherry Trees almost every player will be bolded.
  2. Playing at an international level means different things for different countries. To play at an international level for France/Brazil is on a different scale to say the Faroe Islands or Samoa.
  3. Bolding makes no distinction between the number of caps.
  4. If the fact that they have played for the national team is notable, then it will be listed on their individual and national team articles.
  5. The current squad lists are discussing what they have done for their club and not what they have done for their country.
Notable players sections

It may be useful to readers to have a list of players who have been of importance at a club, but any such list should have clear inclusion/exclusion criteria, and the section header should reflect such criteria. Any editor considering adding a player to such a list, or excising one, should be able to make such a decision on the basis of verifiable fact, not opinion or whim. Such criteria will vary according to the level at which the club plays, or has played. Players considered important to the history of the club, but who do not meet such criteria, can be referred to in the history section.
