In late 1750 AN, the central committees of the Reformist Bloc and the Agrarian Bloc filed a petition to the National Electoral Commission of Aerla to begin the process of merging the two parties into a unified party for the 1755 election. The President, Thomas Guthrie, declined to endorse the merger due to a perceived conflict of interest.
Analysts state that, if accepted, the merger could have a vast impact on Aerla's political landscape. The Conservative Bloc decried the petition, calling it a "blatant power grab" by the Reformists.
In late 1750 AN, a joint party conference announced the name of the new unified party would be the National Democratic Party.
