The Koa Kia'i (Mala'anje: "Warrior Guardians") is a volunteer paramilitary force organized by the Mala'anje people during the Mala Self-Determination Crisis. Established in III.1753 AN, the force provides territorial defense for the Mala First Nation Territory and Windsor Island after Lac Glacei withdrew from the Mala First Nation Territory. The force conducts coastal patrols, escorts Ke Ala Moana evacuation operations, and protects intelligence assets operating on the Lac Glacei mainland.
The Koa Kia'i operates with formal plausible deniability from the tribal government while receiving tacit support from the administration and material assistance channeled through Vegno from Nouvelle Alexandrie. The force forms one component of the broader Mala'anje Resistance, alongside the Ke Ala Moana escape network and an intelligence-gathering apparatus.
