Kalitoskolon

The kalitoskolon is a small frog, once fully grown is about the size of a human nail, endemic to the swampy banks lower parts of the White Elwynn. Its range is roughly from Mariyechelân to Timothea. Known for its loud calling cries at night, it is a beloved (if sometimes annoying) symbol for the local communities within its range. Its mating practices involve a courting ritual in which the female and male wrestle. If the female wins, she will allow the male access to her cloaca.

It is threatened by the industrialization of the river banks and the use of heavy shipping along the rivers, as well as being the prey of the fishing cat. All attemps at introducing the species to other wetlands has consistently failed. It appears to be unable to survive outside its traditional lands. Even in captivity with full nutrition and veterinary access, it dies after a few days. This has given rise to the traditional Elwynnese saying that it dies of a broken heart from the loss of its home; this saying also became a Hoennese yojijukugo, shiryen sāwa (‮失戀死蛙‬), referring to someone in a depressive funk or stranded in a new city after a break-up.
