Depiction of an improvised mine.

Infernal machines, improvised explosive devices in waterproofed containers and attached to a buoyancy device, typically a barrel, disguised as drifting weed clumps or debris. The improvised naval mines are typically fitted with proximity fuses and or remote control detonators. Initially developed by agents of the Honourable Company to slow the movement of Jingdaoese shipping past Port Félix during the Euran War. Further examples were laid in the approaches to Novi Nigrad to deter Shirerithian ships from closing with the shore during the Sathrati Emergency (1730–1731).
