Holy Theban Legion
The Holy Theban Legion are a militia that serves as mobile defense unit within the Moorland Armed Forces, a part of the Kingdom of Moorland, within the Moorland Armed Forces. It is an offshoot of the Brotherhood of The Holy Lance consisting of regular conscripts rather than direct officers of the Church. The Holy Theban legion is one of Nova Englands oldest Legions. It started around 100 years later after the reign of King John I in what we think to be King Marcus' reign. At that time a large force was needed for the war in the Southern lands and a man named Maurice of Detsab rose to the chalenge and with him several hundred cavalry men rode in to battle. After many victorys the Theban was still strong but tired and the dreadful day came when their camp was ambushed at night. However they fought on till only a few men still lived including Maurice the Surts remarked at their bravery let them live and told them to go home. The cavalry men did this and thanked god for letting them leave but they felt grief for their comrades. But when they returned home they were given a heros welcome and the king urged them to visit West Grinstead and this they did. Upon arriving they were knighted and the king made their Band of brave mercenarys into an official legion of the crown. Which would be sent far and wide to protect those that can't defend themselves and to honour their country. Meanwhile the Surts were wiped out when a massive army found them and executed every man and every beast. So from then on a small section of the legion kept an elite horse mounted core and has fought in many battlefields. After the collapse of Nova England, the legion wandered around as a mercenary band, hiring itself out to whatever warlord had cash on hand. But with the rise of Moorland and King MacMartin rallying the remnants of the Faedertellus under one banner, the legion resurfaced and offered to join the kingdom's armed forces. With no official base of operations, the legion operates on a rotational schedule, moving from one part of the kingdom to another as needed.
