Granaditas is the northwestern-most state of Anahuaco. Within the empire the state is known for three things: its desert landscape, violent republican insurgency, and its role in the civil war, particularly the battle of Guerrero. While the state's bad reputation may have some basis, the south of the state is generally safe and economically productive, while only the border areas remain prone to insurgent activity.

History

Despite the harsh desert terrain that dominates the upper two-thirds of the state (the southern third is typically temperate), the Granaditas area has a long history of human settlement. During the Pre-Aanahuaco era, the area was home to a transient population of goat herders and prospectors searching for gemstones and precious metals.

As La Gran Migración got uderway, the population of Granaditas increased rapidly, with many of the original inhabitants of the Anahuaco lands fleeing to the isolation of the desert to escape the newly arrived émigrés.

The state's most famous historical event by far is the 1705 declaration of la Republica Anahuacano, declared in the city of Guerrero by Roberto Sanchez. The subsequent battle of Guerrero between Sanchez' Republicanos and the Imperialistas is one of the defining moments of Anahuaco's history, with the imperial forces triumphing after a fierce battle that lasted slightly over one week.

During the battle, much of Guerrero was levelled and, as a consequence, the city today is one of the most modern in terms of architecture.

An insurgency of Republicanos persists in the northern part of the state, with Imperial forces engaged in a form of guerrilla warfare that frequently crisscrosses the empire's northern border.

Government

In common with all the states of Anahuaco, Granaditas State directly elects a state legislature using a proportional voting system, with universal suffrage for citizens over the age of 16.

The head of the state government is a governor appointed by the Emperor. The current Governor of Granaditas is Raúl Paz Camino.

Governance in Granaditas is complicated by the Republicano insurgency in the border areas of the state, with insurgents seeking to damage state infrastructure and delegitimise state authorities by preventing votes from being cast. For this reason, election periods are particularly violent in the north of the state, with Imperial authorities attempting to prevent Republican disruption.

Georgraphy

To the north, Granaditas borders The Green, with Pavón to the east, Estado de Anahuaco and Matamoros to the south, and the Rio Rojo forming the state's western boundary.

The climate of the state is arid and subtropical, with extremely infrequent rainfall. This makes large-scale agriculture, and even domestic gardening, practically impossible. The state's human population is entirely reliant on the Rio Rojo for water, and the desert sands of the state are what give the river its name.

The state's unusual climate has given rise to a variety of unique flora and fauna, including cacti and other drought-loving planet species.
