Gerne

Gerne is a city in the Walstadt and Light jurisdiction of the Lanzerwald Republic, belonging to the Light region. In 1752 the city emerged as a merger of Berne and Genf. The city consists of many smaller settlements spread over two of the Islands of Light. Most of the population has been concentrated in the towns of Berne and Genf, with only a few hundred people living in villages such as Freiburg and Luzern. The two towns are characterised by their apartment complexes, built through the construction method of large-panel system building that offer a massive improvement in living conditions compared to the small wooden houses from the feudal era that were more common before the 1750's. These Plattenbau apartments are very popular because of their insulation and central heating. Whaling is important for the economy of Gerne, after oil drilling which employs a majority of the people in Gerne, when the entire supply chain is considered.
