The flag of Whales was adopted in 1679 and first flown in 1688 upon the entry to force of the Constitution of Whales which changed the name and government of the Two Martyrs to Whales.

The whaler Karl Battenberg and his sons Wilhelm and Heinrich proposed the flag design. In a latter to the 1685–1687 Two Martyrs constitutional convention, they wrote that the green represented the Kujirashijin (Sangunese; taken from the flag of Greater Sangun), the pink represented the Walstädters (Saxons, taken from the old flag of Walstadt), and the white colour represented the peace between these two communities.

The flag was not met with public acclamation. Opponents against the flag rallied behind the Lord of Szandoh's call for a "Jihad to be waged against Karl Battenberg and his lineage down to the tenth generation of their descendants for the total eradication of all proponents of that flag". In the end, the House of Nobles adopted the Flag Act 1687 with a narrow majority (Lords Köniz and Szandoh leading the opposition).

Former flag of the Two Martyrs and the Principality of Whales

Previously, the Two Martyrs and the various principalities of Kujirashi-Walstadt from Sisera's rule and onwards was a grey flag with two pink vertical stripes. A female whaler stands over a slaughtered whale in victory. This flag was deemed inappropriate for further use by the 1685–1687 Two Martyrs constitutional convention as the Sangunese and Bovic communities of the principality felt it excluded them.

Since 1704 AN an "anatomically correct" Cibolan Whale has been shown on the flag. Officially no update to the flag has occurred, the "pink whale" variant never existed and was merely an exercise in Saxon propaganda.
