Desert-berry
Desert-berries are edible fruits from a certain Alalehzamini desert succulent. This particular succulent, called the desert-berry succulent, bears fruit on average only on the very shortest Norton years (usually once every twelve years), due to the particular climate and humidity of those years. In some other very both humid and warm years, desert-berries grow at either times, but those years are considered agricultural and meteorological accidents.
Desert-berry succulents have defined domestication, making the desert-berry a very expensive food. It is considered one of the most expensive foodstuffs, with prices for fresh desert-berries exceeding the price of gold by double, in some years, even triple, for the same weight.
The desert-berry is to its flavour strong, sweet yet acidic. Usually, the berry needs parboiling before consumption. Among the upper classes in Benacia, the desert berry is considered a status symbol, and is often preserved in the form of marmalades.
There is a desert-berry spirit produced in Alalehzamin. Except for the taste, it is similar to absinthe.
