The Cemetery of Our Lady of Grace (Alexandrian: Cimetière de Notre-Dame de Grâce; Martino: Cementerio de Nuestra Señora de Gracia) is a historic cemetery located in the Quartier Saint-Michel district of Punta Santiago, Alduria. Established in 1672 AN by the Church of Alexandria, it is one of the oldest formal burial grounds in the city and one of the most significant cemeteries in all of Nouvelle Alexandrie.

The cemetery contains approximately 4,831 above-ground vaults, crypts, and mausoleums arranged along tree-lined avenues. It serves as the final resting place for many of Alduria's founding figures, including presidents, prime ministers, military officers, artists, scientists, and industrialists. The elaborate funerary architecture, which spans multiple styles, has made the cemetery a popular destination for visitors and architecture enthusiasts.

In 1698 AN, the Cemetery of Our Lady of Grace was designated a National Historic Site by the federal government. The site receives approximately 185,000 visitors annually and is jointly administered by the Church of Alexandria and the Municipality of Punta Santiago.

Cultural significance

The Cemetery of Our Lady of Grace holds a particular place in the collective memory of the Alexandrian diaspora and the citizens of Alduria. For many, it represents a tangible connection to the generation that founded the Republic of Alduria after the catastrophic collapse of Alexandria in 1651 AN. The presence of so many founders, signatories of the Proclamation of Punta Santiago, and early political leaders makes the cemetery a site of pilgrimage for those interested in the history of Nouvelle Alexandrie.

The cemetery has appeared in numerous works of Alexandrian literature, including Émilie Géroux-Peltier's novel Les Exilés (1722 AN), which contains a famous scene set among the vaults. It has also been the subject of documentary films, photographic studies, and architectural surveys.

On the Day of Remembrance and other occasions of national mourning, officials from the federal and regional governments often lay wreaths at the tombs of notable figures. The annual commemoration of the founding of the Republic of Alduria on 25.XV includes a ceremony at the cemetery.
