Act of Settlement 1755
The Act of Settlement (1755 AN), known formally as the Act to clarify and establish a new constitutional Order of the Realms held in Right of Their Royal Majesty of the Meckelnburghers, is a foundational law within the United Kingdom of Meckelnburgh reorganizing the constitutional relationship of the constituent countries of Meckelnburgh proper, Branniboria, Salem and Iselande under the personal and political union of the sovereign's title as "King/Queen of the Meckelnburghers." The new act settled constitutional questions for the representation of Branniboria in the Parliament of Meckelnburgh and the autonomy of the culturally and politically distinct Iselande.
Provisions
The Act of Settlement (1755 AN) provided a new scheme of political organization to the United Kingdom:
- The Lands of the Branniboria, as the country of the Insular/Eastern Meckelnish people on Esthar, is united in sovereign status with the core of the Meckelnish people in metropolitan Meckelnburgh, while remaining a cultural constituent of the union, under the representation of "Meckelnburgh" entities.
- The peoples of Branniboria and Meckelnburgh are thus formally the "Meckelnburghers," and the monarch of Meckelnburgh as united sovereign of the Meckelnburghers.
- With the abolition of Branniborian sovereignty, Branniboria is integrated with Meckelnburgh into the new Parliament of Meckelnburgh–Branniboria as a special provincial entity similar to the Royal City of Alexandretta and County Palatine of Hergilsey, and the legislative National Assembly of Branniboria is dissolved—the Prime Minister is retained as a special executive with a National Council.
- Similarly, the legislative House of Deliberation of Hergilsey is abolished and its authority assumed by the new Parliament—the First Minister is retained.
- The Princely Archabbey of Salem is formally a personal possession of the King of the Meckelnburghers, as an estate via the position as Lord Protector of the Church of Meckelnburgh.
- The Grand Duchy of Iselande is a sovereign and independent country within the United Kingdom, entitled to its right to self-government with limited intervention by Parliament, and the monarch holds Iselande in permanent personal union as the separate Grand Duke of Iselande.
- No action may be taken to change the union as established by the Act of 1755 AN without the unanimous consent of the Meckelnburghers, Iselande and Their Royal Majesty.
"Meckelnburghers"
Under the Act of Settlement (1755 AN), the people of Branniboria were politically recognized as a status of one of the two major groups of Meckelnish peoples and ethnicity. The term "Meckelnburghers" therefore became a constitutionally defined term that acknowledged "Meckelnburgh" to be an ethno-political institution as the United Kingdom between Branniboria and Meckelnburgh proper.
