The 2022 Largoprato Grand Prix (officially known as the Formula Vegno Largoprato Grand Prix 2022) is a Formula Vegnese Championship race that is going to be held on 14 April 2022 at the Circuito Nazionale di Scanzata, a motor racing circuit in the city of Scanzata. It served as the second race of the 2022 Formula Vegnese Championship and it was the first ever running of the Largoprato Grand Prix.
Background
The drivers and teams were the same as the season entry list.
Tyre Choices
The compound of tyres selected for this weekend by Vegnelli, the official supplier for Formula Vegno are: C4 as Softs (color Red), C3 as Medium (color Yellow) and C2 as Hard (color White).
Practice Session
The practice session was held at the Grand Prix lasting an hour in length; it was scheluded on 12 April 2022, and started at 15:00 local time, having the following situation:
Pos. | No. | Driver | Constructor | Time | Tyre | Gap |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 33 | Massimo Veraldi | Blue Bull Racing | 1:31:041 | M | - |
2 | 16 | Carlo Lecce | Scuderia Rossini | 1:31:138 | H | +0.096 |
3 | 42 | Francesco Giocatore | Sburo | 1:31:271 | S | +0.229 |
From the free practice a very balanced classification emerges, where the Sburo appears strong in the second and third sector but using the most performing tire, the Soft; on the contrary, he emerges from the group Veraldi with a decidedly superior Blue Bull in the first sector (36.9) with about 3-4 tenths of an advantage over all the others, but suffering in the other parts of the lap.
Carlo Lecce, on the other hand, appears to be the favorite for pole because he has a very balanced Scuderia Rossini in all parts of the lap without excelling but not even losing, but on Hard tires and therefore with a lot more to express.
In the midfield there is strangely a Hamel (7th) apparently out of shape with a Puredes Racing in clear difficulty on this track, as well as Alberto Saiani, only 9th in the standings.
Qualifying
As clarified by the regulations, the qualifying session took place on 13 April 2022, with a double session: the 10 fastest drivers had access to Q2, competing with each other for the pole position.
Report
The second qualifying of the year brought several surprises to Scanzata, where in Q1, in addition to Schiavelli's McPapu, both a Puredes and a Blue Bull, two of the favorite teams for pole, were sensationally eliminated; the other McPapu and even both Ripamonti, appearing in a notable amount of dust compared to free practice, landed instead in Q2.
Q2 ends instead with a sensationally unexpected result: Ricagni's Pole Position on McPapu, one of the outsiders of this qualification. pilot number 3 in fact manages to take advantage of a sensational unwanted wake in the last sector and to print a super-time in his first attempt without either Lecce or Veraldi able to reach it, stopping at more than a tenth of a gap.
The second attempt of all is unfortunately blocked by a shower of rain arrived in the last minutes of qualifying which does not allow any of the drivers to improve and gives Ricagni a sensational pole position.
Also disappointing Saiani, Championship Leader, only sixth, Hamel, author of the pole in Cossa, even eighth and also Spettacolo, who takes seventh place, also overtaken by his teammate Ciccio Giocatore in fifth.

Race
Report
The race begins immediately with a sensational twist: the disastrous start of Ricagni who, started from pole position, remains planted and is immediately passed by Veraldi (2nd) and Lecce (1st), who immediately begin to create the void behind them. Ricagni maintains the third position with difficulty and is forced, due to the considerable wear on the tires, to anticipate the pit stop and ends up in traffic in 13th position, losing a lot of time on those who remain out longer.
Giocatore seems to have an excellent pace but fails to overtake Alocci who maintains fourth place, while behind them Spettacolo surpasses Saiani without, however, having the pace of those in front.
Lecce and Veraldi keep the lead even after their pit stops while the pit stops of Alocci, Player, Entertainment and Saiani (started on soft tires), allows Hamel and Perego to be able to run with free air and go longer. having started on Medium tires. Their step in free air and the traffic encountered by their opponents allows Hamel and Perego to return comfortably to third and fifth place after their stop, overtaking all those who had started on soft tires.
In the last laps the sensational debacle of Ricagni is consumed, forced to a second pit stop after having completely worn out the tires to keep up with the best performing drivers with whom he was battling and ends the race even in 15th position, even behind his teammate. Schiavelli team.
Anonymous race for Botta and Garrics, who manage to win respectively 2 and 1 point in the final classification.
Mention of merit for Alocci who, despite a poorly performing car, manages to take home an unexpected fourth position, one step away from the podium.
