Minikui Sumato is a figure in Jingdaoese folklore and mythology. He's traditionally regarded as vanquisher of evil ghosts and demons who try to vanquish humanity, while being able to command an army of over 88,888 spirits. He's seen as a guardian spirit, aiding the Heavenly Light in His role as protector of the world.

Story

According to the myths surrounding his life, Minikui travelled from his hometown, Jinsha (in the Qaoshan Province), to take part in the state-wide Imperial Examinations in the Imperial City. Those examinations were held every two years and regarded as the most important step one could take to gain an influential position in the civil service. Though Minikui attained and showed academic success through his achievements in the exams, he lost the chance receive his rightful title as top-scorer. On the day he was expected to enter the Heavenly Palace, where he would receive his price from the Sheng Emperor himself, he was attacked by three evil demons. His trust in the Heavenly Light saved him from being dragged away. However, as he hadn't shown up in time, access to the Palace was revoked.

In disappointment and anger towards the demons, Minikui Sumato committed suicide upon the palace steps by continually hurtling himself against the palace stairs until his head was broken, whereupon the Heavenly Light had him buried and laid to rest in a state-funded tomb. Once dead, Minikui stood in front of Germania, ruler of the underworld, who had to judge his life. The goddess saw potential in him, who was intelligent and smart enough to score top honours in the Imperial Examinations. His suicide, however, had condemned Minikui to the underworld, unable to be revived, because he committed the sin of suicide. Sisera then gave him a title, as the king of spirits, and tasked him to hunt, capture, take charge of and maintain discipline and order of all spirits who had escaped the Underworld.
