Storting
The Storting (Uppmanlandic: Stortinget [ˈstûːʈɪŋə]; literally "the Great Thing") is the supreme legislature of Uppmanland, established as such in 1757 by the constitution. A great assembly for all the provinces of the Uppmanlandic-speaking people of the coast south of Amaland had existed for hundreds of years before, albeit informally. The legislature is elected every three years by all oath-bound citizens, with each province apportioned seats according to its share of the population. The assembly is led by a speaker (Uppmanlandic: talman) and four vice speakers (Uppmanlandic: nästtalman). The Storting is vested with supreme legislative, judicial and executive powers in the areas delegated to it by the constitution. When legislating, the Storting operates as a regular legislature. Its judicial and executive functions are delegated to separate committees, with appeal available in certain circumstances to the full membership of the Storting.
