A modern FF-1600 electric battery bus in use by Capital Bus in 1738 AN.

Capital Bus (Alexandrian: Bus de la Capitale, Martino: Autobuses de la Capital), also known as Cárdenas Bus or its nickname Cabu, is the integrated bus transit service for Cárdenas, the capital of Nouvelle Alexandrie. It is operated by the Federal District Transport Authority, with a total of 256 bus routes. These include bus rapid transit and limited-stop routes. The FDTA has the objective of covering all areas within Cárdenas with a population density above 2,000 per square km within its service area. In 1738 AN, the average daily ridership stood at around 282,700 and an annual ridership of 84.8 million.

Most bus routes are local services operating in the districts of Cárdenas, which connect to several hubs of the Cárdenas Metro and National rail network. There are a total of 8 BRT routes, which operate from two major hubs: Cárdenas Grande Unión Station and Cárdenas International Airport. Smaller local networks are present in the barrios of Conzalito, Bocabona, Laguzalito, Albaño, and Choba. There are also several cross-city bus routes. Several express routes operate from suburbs to downtown Cárdenas.

Capital Bus operates an active bus fleet of around 1,400 buses with diesel-electric hybrid propulsion. It also operates around 150 battery electric buses. The buses are all accessible as low-floor buses with fold-out ramps.

Operations

Capital Bus operates a total of 256 bus routes in both downtown Cárdenas and its barrios. The services are divided into three distinct categories: Local operates within districts and barrios, connecting to various metro or train stations; Interurbanos operates between different districts as well as out to the barrios; and Transurbanos operates from one barrio, through the urban core, outwards to another barrio. Beginning in 1706 AN, major routes have been designated by FDTA as so-called 'Rutas Clave', meaning they receive the highest frequency of service (at least 4 bph, and 6 bph during peak-hours) due to their ridership numbers. These routes for example use articulated buses to provide high-capacity services. Most non-major routes still are continuously served with at least 1 bph, and 2 to 3 bph during peak-hours.

1-90

FDTA reserved routes 1 to 90 for local services in the core of the metropolitan area. Most of them are numbered roughly according to their district, which the lowest number beginning in the Government District. Twelve of these routes - 1, 5, 18, 24, 38, 45, 57, 58, 71, 78, 83, 87 - are also 'Rutas Clevas' with articulated buses.

The numbering of routes has remained mostly consistent throughout the years FDTA has operated, however routing has been adapted to serve new developments and changing population density in the metropolitan area.

These routes are part of the so-called 'Rutas del Este', a number of routes designated in that fashion for the barrios of Tastin, Jario, Bemar, and Jinozonte. This was first done in 1695 AN to support the growing eastern part of Cárdenas, where both Metro and Rail links are fewer and farther apart. Four routes - 156, 160, 161, 166 - are 'Rutas Clevas'.
