Although long contemplated as an administrative necessity, the Grand Commissariat of Benacia Command was only formally established in 1724 AN as a consequence of Operation Jagdbeute and the vast movements of men and materiel occasioned by the withdrawal of Shireroth from the Raspur Pact.
During the Shiro-Benacian War, the Grand Commissariat organised non-combatant Commissariat Brigades in support of division level formations within the main banner groups of Benacia Command. In addition to taking suitable volunteers from the Benacian Labour Reserve on the promise of manumission, service with the Grand Commissariat was also promoted in Ransenar and the Sovereign Confederation as an alternative to national service in a war-fighting role with the BUDF or state guards.
The sixty Commissariat Brigades thus raised included a bridging demi-regiment, a pipeline demi-regiment, transport regiment, machine workshop, road repair and pontoon bridge squadrons. Each commissariat brigade had two mobility support regiments. In total the brigades would amount to 5,160 personnel with a total of 150 general-purpose trucks with 50 trailers and 260 specialised trucks per brigade.
