Majuu

Majuu (Hoennese: ‮魔󠄁獸‬, translit.: masu), also known as pokémon, are a class of supernally empowered creatures native to Terra, which were also present on Nijima during its time as a Hoennese colony and later independent nation. Most majuu undergo a process of metamorphosis between juvenile, subadult, and adult life stages, which is known as evolution (‮進化‬, jinwa).

649 types (often termed species, though due to aforementioned metamorphoses the appellation is inexact) of majuu are known, sorted into seventeen types by their elemental affinities; of these, 135 are native to Hoenn. Some species of masu are known to be sapient.
