Raveness, is the capital city of Nevermoor within the Kingdom of Moorland. It is the westernmost stronghold of the kingdom and a major military fortress that houses the Nevermoor Knights. Although only having a small population within an extremely rural region, the city represents the primary western defence point against which barbarians are repelled from the Green and from the Confederacy of the Dispossessed. Despite its small size, the city has ancient roots, and was originally founded as the city of Geol (commonly spelled Yule) within the early Kingdom of Syrah. Local legends state that the name refers to the city being established at the end of the year, near the yuletide. To this day some locals consider themselves descended, at least in part, from the Syrans.
