The University of Vrijplaats is an institution of higher education funded by the Governorate of Dar Al-Hoeriya, Kurum Ash-Sharqia. The university was established in 1727 AN, 28 years afters the independence of Kurum Ash-Sharqia. Before, most students used to study in New Batavia, where courses are taught only in Dutch. The University of Vrijplaats teaches in English, and thus fills a gap that previously existed
