Simon Onqellyr
Simon Mikalaqu Onqellyr is a Green Laqi Shirerithian military officer of Elw descent. He has served in the Ŝḥenĉeł'yh, the HIH Brookshirian Auxiliary Service, and the Ducal Army of Brookshire.
Military career
Simon Onqellyr answered the call in early 1681 AN, buying an officer's share in the Ŝḥenĉeł'yh, during its participation in the Imperial Expedition to Crestfall. Assigned to the baggage train as a newly-minted subaltern, Onqellyr did not see military action during the expedition, and at the end of the conflict, was selected for service in the newly-created Her Imperial Highness' Brookshirian Auxiliary Service. Serving in the Headquarters Security Section, he was tasked with rooting out and eliminating persistent disloyal elements while identifying trustworthy officers for promotion -- this was considered an especially necessary task, as the bulk of the early Auxiliary Service was composed of ex-BAAL fighters, who had just recently fought in rebellion against the Throne.
In 1695 AN, Junior Tribune Onqellyr was transferred to the General Staff of the Ducal Army of Brookshire, a newly reorganized formation that had absorbed the Auxiliary Service and the old Circle Militias into a professional ground force. Again making a name for himself in the subject of logistics and security, Onqellyr was promoted to the mid-grade and assigned command of DAB military police in 1698 AN.
During the peacekeeping intervention in Drak-Modan, Onqellyr requested transfer to a military command; the request was initially denied, but repeated requests resulted in an assignment to 9. Streïhvasza Isenbury as its second-in-command. Onqellyr would later be assigned military governorship in Eriksburg for the duration of the occupation. Following the establishment of the Modanese ducal government and the return home of most Imperial troops, Onqellyr remained in Modan to assist in the creation of the Modanese Ducal Guard and to command residual Brookshirian troops stationed in Capeshire to assist in anti-radical police actions. As a result, he did not participate in the Imperial Expedition to Shimmerspring, Thanatos, and So Sara itself, though he did consult on the deployment of the Modanese Ducal Guard into Shimmerspring so as to effectively inaugurate ducal authority in the region soon-to-be incorporated region. For this work, Onqellyr was promoted to the senior grade.
In 1714 AN, Simon was personally chosen by Salome to oversee the security arrangements for the Great Feast of 1714 on the Field of H'Graa outside Maltenstein, in response to increased discontent and acts of disobedience by the sons of Laqi princes. Intended to be an opportunity for the princes to air their grievances and for their sons to make demonstrations of contrition, the event unraveled into an unprecedented orgy of violence that marks the beginning of the Laqi Rebellion. Despite opposing rebellion, Simon Onqellyr was elected by the rebelling princes as their warlord (RL. Ś'yć'ezanć'em i Paš', "Leader of the Straight Way") and resigned his commission in the Imperial Forces.
